Laurie’s Story of Healing and Purpose
My journey began with an unexpected miracle. After a debilitating car accident left me with numbness in my hands, feet, and legs, I experienced divine healing! That moment transformed my life.
The Holy Spirit brought to my heart the scripture in Hebrews 10:25: “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
I knew the Lord was calling me to start attending church!
He led me to the only “spirit-filled” church in my town, and for the first time I felt truly at home. It was there that I met my husband, Scott, and together we began building a family centered on the Lord.
Scott was soon appointed as an elder, and later as the interim pastor. During this time, he discerned that God was calling him into full-time ministry. I, too, felt called—joining the worship team, where I discovered my deep passion for worship.
As our church navigated its own challenges, we felt led to plant a church in Teton Valley, Idaho. This new season was full of both challenges and blessings. As the church grew, I stepped into the role of music minister, leading worship for 12 years. Music ministry brought me immense joy, as I used my gifts to uplift the congregation and draw them closer to God.
Though ministry was rewarding, it also had its difficulties. I often internalized the struggles we faced, believing it was my responsibility to carry them quietly in a small church setting. Over time, this emotional strain took a toll on my body, resulting in severe health issues that left me uncertain of what was happening.
Eventually, we made the difficult decision to step down from ministry. Though we continued to support other pastors in the area, it felt like our own calling to ministry had been put on hold.
After an eleven year “sabbatical” a friend introduced us to LK10 Ministries. This ministry resonated deeply with our hearts. Intrigued, we joined the six-week Church 101 course, which offered a refreshing perspective on faith and community.
I fell in love with the ministry’s core values: “Everyone has a voice, and every voice is heard.” Ephesians 3:10, which speaks of God’s wisdom being revealed through the church, took on a whole new meaning. For the first time in a long while, I felt truly heard and valued, which brought me back to life in a new way.
LK10 offered a safe haven for people like me—people who had been hurt or exhausted by traditional ministry. In this community, everyone is honored. Through this nurturing environment, we rediscovered our sense of purpose, helping others who had felt “done” with church to re-engage in a new and transformative way.
